Group Pilates

Face-to-face Clinical Pilates Classes – move well and feel great
Whether you are a complete beginner or a seasoned regular, our face-to-face Pilates classes are perfect if you love the energy and atmosphere of a group class.
Under the watchful eye of our highly trained Clinical Pilates Instructors and Physiotherapists, our classes offer a safe, adaptable workout to suit everyone, even if you are recovering from an injury or are dealing with chronic pain.
We’re sticklers for precision! It’s amazing how a small adjustment can completely change how an exercise feels in your body. If you like knowing that someone is carefully observing your movement and will provide hands-on correction to ensure you’re doing everything correctly, then you’ll love training with our team.
You won’t find any loud, thumping music or set choreographed routines. Our Pilates classes are carefully planned and build progressively to establish a strong foundation for movement. They’re expertly designed and taught to help you develop strength, improve flexibility, increase core control and develop better movement strategies.
Many of our lovely students have practised with us for years, so you’re likely to see the same friendly faces at each class and everyone is really encouraging of each other. Our Pilates classes will not give you a great workout but will connect you with others for whom Pilates is a passion.
What is Clinical Pilates?
Clinical Pilates has evolved from the traditional Pilates repertoire which is designed to strength and condition your whole body and improve your health and wellbeing.
However, in a Clinical Pilates class, many of the exercises have been modified by physiotherapists to create a programme of movements which will be suitable for everyone, even if they have back pain or another health issue.
A Clinical Pilates instructor will have a clear understanding of how underlying medical conditions, injury or other physical issues might affect an individual’s ability to undertake specific exercises safely. This expertise means that they will be able to make adjustments to enable all students to participate comfortably at the right level.
In-person Clinical Pilates classes – have fun and build strength
If you want to gain a deeper understanding about your own body and how it moves, then our Clinical Pilates classes might be just what you need.
We’ll teach you about your posture, explore areas of tightness or excessive mobility, help you build strength, breathing deeply and move with better control and efficiency.
This is why you’ll love our Clinical Pilates classes:
- Better core control and strength
- Improved balance
- Pain relief
- Greater flexibility and freedom of movement
- Increased postural awareness and better posture
- Better breathing
- Injury prevention
- More efficient patterns of movement
- Increased general strength and tone for your whole body
- Stress management
- Rehab from back pain or other injuries

Athletes and Dancers

Improve performance and prevent injuries with Physio-led Pilates
If you dance, run, cycle, row, swim, or lift weights then improving your alignment, muscle structure and the way you move with clinical Pilates will significantly help to prevent overuse injuries.
A stronger core makes you quicker, leaner and gives you greater power for explosive movements. We can also help you improve your flexibility while correcting technical faults and muscle imbalances as well as gain control of areas of hyper flexibility. Improved balance, proprioception, co-ordination and stability will all significantly enhance your performance.
At this level everyone is strongly advised to have a private session before going into a class to ensure you have a bespoke program of exercises specifically to complement your sport.
Our 1:1 private Pilates classes are all taught by highly qualified, clinically trained Physiotherapists who will screen your movements, strength and flexibility to fully understand your needs. This helps us develop a personalised programme and get you moving well from your very first appointment.
What are the benefits of Physio Pilates?
Working with a physio means that you can be confident that you are training safely with a healthcare professional who will understand and be able to carefully modify the Pilates movements to best effect for you, regardless of your medical history.
There are lots of reasons why Pilates is so highly recommended, some of these include:
• Improve balance, control and movement patterns
• Prevent injuries (Prehab)
• Better posture and body awareness
• Recovery from injury or surgery
• Build core and whole-body strength
• Restore flexibility and mobility
• Reduce stress and tension
• Accelerate Postnatal recovery
• Relieve pain
• Maintain or Increase fitness during pregnancy
Reformer Pilates for athletes and dancers
Whatever your goals, Pilates exercises can be adjusted to increase or reduce the challenge and add variety. In fact, I’d say that no two sessions at our studio are ever the same. If you are working on the mat repertoire, then we often use small equipment like a roller, small ball, mini bands, sliders or long resistance bands. On equipment, we switch between our combi chair, reformer, tower, ladder and spine corrector to bring variety and challenge.
Moving in new ways like this each session keeps your body from adapting, so you will continue to make progress rather than plateau.
Understanding the basic principles and some of the key movements is vital for good form, so from the first appointment we will teach you precise form and modify or breakdown or build up the movements to suit your specific needs and capabilities.
Skipping ahead means that your progress will plateau more quickly, so a good grounding in the basics principles is vital before stepping up the challenge.

Massage

Deep tissue, sports and remedial massage
At our clinic in Cambridge, we specialise in massage for people who are in pain. Our massage therapists are very highly qualified and treat all kinds of painful conditions such as back pain, muscle strains, muscular spasms, pelvic girdle pain during pregnancy, neck pain and sports injuries.
Remedial massage is a completely different experience to spa massage. Whether you have a longstanding condition or have recently injured yourself, our therapists will assess you thoroughly and apply a range of massage treatment techniques to relieve pain, release muscle tension and restore pain free movement.
What are the benefits of a great massage?
We tailor every massage treatment to your symptoms and individual needs, combining different techniques to create a custom approach. This may include deep tissue treatments, sports massage, lymphatic drainage, trigger point techniques, instrument assisted massage (IASTM), muscle energy techniques and myofascial release.
Massage is not just for people in pain. There are lots of other reasons why a great massage is helpful. Regular massage improves the condition of your muscles, increases blood flow, lowers your stress levels, improves sleep patterns and can help reduce the risk of sustaining an injury in the first place. Women who are massaged during pregnancy will not only feel better during their pregnancy but also have a reduced likelihood of postpartum depression.
What type of massage would help my condition?
The reasons for seeking a massage treatment and the level of pressure you prefer are individual to you, so talking to your therapist before and during your appointment is vital. The more we know about you, the better we can treat you!
We often try a range of techniques to see which works most effectively and feels best to you, including:
- Deep Tissue Massage
- Sports Massage
- Myofascial release
- Pregnancy massage
- Acupuncture or Dry Needling
- Trigger point therapy
- Instrument Assisted Massage (IASTM)
- Frictions and remedial massage

Postnatal Pilates

Postnatal Physiotherapist-led Pilates
Pregnancy and childbirth can put a lot of strain on your body and many women will experience some back pain, pelvic pain or muscle weakness afterwards. A safe and targeted rehab programme is key to help you restore strength and control in your pelvic floor muscles, improve your tummy muscle gap and regain your fitness.
Whether you gave birth recently or several years ago, our postnatal Pilates classes are suitable for all women who have given birth.
Our specialist Women’s Health Physiotherapists offer a comprehensive postnatal assessment of your posture, tummy gap (diastasis recti), movement of the spine, pelvis and hips and an internal examination of your pelvic floor muscles if needed. A tailored programme of corrective Pilates exercises can then be developed for your individual physical issues.
We offer 1:1 postnatal Pilates on both mat and reformer. Our group postnatal Pilates classes are live, online sessions and we send out recordings of each class you book afterwards, so you can practice using the recordings at another time if you prefer.
When would a postnatal Pilates class be recommended?
All our classes are taught by experienced physiotherapists, so you can be confident that we understand the physical issues experienced by postnatal women and will teach you a safe and targeted programme to help you restore the balance in your body.
We offer bespoke service, so whether you call us for a one-off postnatal assessment, book into a weekly online postnatal Pilates class or want to arrange a regular private Pilates session, we will always be focusing on your individual needs.

Older Adults Pilates

Clinical Pilates classes – specialised for older adults
Pilates is an ideal way for older adults to exercise. You might have noticed changes in your mobility, strength, flexibility or balance as you’ve become older.
Pilates improves all these things and there’s always a way to modify so you feel comfortable on any given day. It’s never too late to learn how to move your body more efficiently, improve mobility and build strength with Pilates.
We offer specialised online Older Adults group classes or 1:1 Clinical Pilates classes for seniors on both mat or reformer and they both have great benefits for over 60s. Some Pilates exercises may need to be modified – especially if you have a specific physical issue like osteoporosis – so it’s important that you are assessed properly and taught alternative movements, so you don’t hurt yourself.
All my Clinical Pilates instructors have experience working with older adults, you can be confident that we will understand any pre-existing physical conditions and be able to work safely with you to reach your individual goals.
How to join one of our 60+ Clinical Pilates classes
If you are a completed beginner, have had surgery or have any pre-existing conditions then we strongly recommend a 1:1 session before starting group classes.
Our instructors will assess your posture, flexibility, core strength, balance and the way you move, to help you understand how to reach your Pilates goals. We will get you moving straight away and design a targeted programme of exercises, sent to you with videos, for you to practice.
In a 1:1 Pilates class, you’ll be introduced to the basic principles of Pilates and you’ll learn some of the key movements and Pilates exercises. Most of the exercises in the Pilates repertoire can modified and gradually built up, so you can work at a level and pace which is comfortable and safe for you.
We run a bespoke service, so whether you call us for a one-off assessment, book into a weekly online Pilates class or a regular private Pilates session, we will always be focusing on your individual needs.

Modified Pilates for older adults offers a low impact way to exercise, which is gentle on your joints, even if you haven’t exercised in a while. With a strong focus on breathing well and the quality of movement, rather than lots of repetitions of each exercise, clinical Pilates is often recommended by healthcare practitioners to older adults.

Pregnancy Pilates

Physiotherapist-led Pregnancy Pilates
Exercising regularly during pregnancy to maintain or even improve your fitness has huge benefits for both you and your baby. Our physio-led pregnancy Pilates classes, with their focus on the pelvic floor muscles, posture, core strength and pelvic stability, are a great way to help your body cope with the physical changes of pregnancy and build strength for the demands to come.
After your first trimester, it’s important that you attend a specialist prenatal Pilates class because the exercises need to be specially modified during pregnancy but you continue to practice right up until the birth of your baby.
Our pregnancy Pilates classes are available as 1:1 private sessions (in person at the studio or online), through our live streamed, online group prenatal Pilates class or via our on-demand video library. They are taught by physiotherapists specialising in Women’s Health, who have been clinically trained to teach both antenatal and postnatal Pilates.
We strongly recommend a private session before starting our online group class to make sure it’s safe for you and to ensure you are working your pelvic floor correctly (as often women aren’t!). We’ll assess your posture and go through some key moves, so that you are familiar with the basics and get the most out of your Pilates classes. As part of your session, we’ll send you the key exercises with video links so that you can practice safely at home inbetween classes.
What is a physio-led prenatal Pilates class like?
Our physiotherapists will only teach Pilates exercises which are safe for you and your baby in a pregnancy class. The pace is less intense than a standard Pilates class and the classes are designed around a developing pregnancy, with modifications for different trimesters, so you can work at a level and pace which is comfortable and safe for you.
You can start as early in your pregnancy as you like but if you are in your third trimester and have not attended classes before, please contact us before starting a trial of our online classes or using our on-demand videos to check that it’s safe for you.
What are the benefits of antenatal Pilates?
Regular pregnancy Pilates practice reduces the risk of pelvic girdle pain and low back pain, helps you recover faster postnatally and the health benefits of exercise are also passed onto your baby.
In one of our pregnancy Pilates classes, you’ll learn a lot about your own body and how it moves. We’ll teach you different ways to activate your pelvic floor muscles and how to manage the changes in your alignment and posture to prevent pain. You’ll learn exercises to keep your spine moving comfortably, how to strengthen and support your growing bump and movements with a focus on balance and pelvic stability.
Some of the benefits of an Antenatal Pilates class include:
- Strengthening your pelvic floor, abdominal, buttock and back muscles to support your baby as it grows
- Maintaining spinal flexibility without straining your joints
- Better body awareness, posture and balance
- Learning how to relax and control your breathing in preparation for labour

Reformer Pilates

Private reformer classes with a physiotherapist
Our Pilates reformer bed – with its leather straps, cuffs and springs – might look a bit intimidating but working on Pilates equipment is one of the most physically effective and versatile ways to practice.
Reformer beds both support and challenge your body in almost any position or direction. The pulleys help you move your arms and legs through a greater range of movement and the springs offer resistance both on the effort (muscle tightening) and release (muscle lengthening), giving an intensive and focused experience of movement. It’s why training on the Pilates reformer is so special.
Our physios specialise in teaching Pilates on equipment, so you can expect a tailored programme – using the reformer, tower, ladder, chair and spine corrector – designed to address your physical goals or clinical needs. Training with a physiotherapist also means that you can be confident in our understanding of any injuries (old or new) and our ability to adapt and adjust the equipment, so you’ll be able to move comfortably from the first session.
Our reformer is such an adaptable piece of equipment that can be used lying down, kneeling, standing or on all fours. Working on equipment forces you to perform the movements correctly, so you have no choice but to activate the right muscles in all positions. It really changes the way you move and with practice you can carry this with you, in your muscle memory, away from the studio into your day-to-day activities.
What are the benefits of practising Pilates on a reformer?
At our Cambridge clinic we often teach our patients on reformer as part of our rehab programmes after injury or surgery. This allows our patients to begin exercising straight away in a pain-free way that helps to stimulate repair and build strength and flexibility, without overloading healing structures.
Our Women’s Health team also regularly use our reformer during pregnancy or in the postnatal period for restoring stability around the pelvis, improving alignment and building strength in the abdominal and pelvic floor muscles. Reformer pilates is also particularly good for people with joint issues such as or arthritis to build control and support for their joints. Everyone is different, so there are many reasons why our patients want to learn Pilates on equipment, including:
- Rehabilitation after an injury or surgery
- Building up core strength
- Restoring flexibility and joint mobility
- Developing better balance, control and movement patterns
- Reducing stress and tension
- Relieving pain
- Improving posture and body awareness
- Accelerating Postnatal recovery
- Increasing fitness during pregnancy
- Prevent injuries (Prehab)
- General fitness training
- Just for fun
Versatile, fun and effective Pilates reformer training in Cambridge
Many of our patients begin training on reformer after an injury but continue training with us long after they have recovered because it’s such a great workout.
There are so many ways to work on the equipment that every session is a little different. Moving in new ways like this each session keeps your body from adapting, so you continue to see steady progress.

Beginners Pilates

Beginners Physiotherapist-led Pilates
Beginners Pilates classes are available as 1:1 private sessions – in person at the studio or online – or through our live, online group Pilates classes. Beginners classes are suitable for everyone, regardless of age or level of fitness.
They will all introduce you to the basic principles of Pilates and you’ll learn some of the key movements and exercises. The exercises are modified and gradually built up during each class, so you can work at a level and pace which is comfortable and safe for you.
We strongly recommend a 1:1 session before starting group classes if you are a complete beginner, have any injuries, are pregnant or have recently had a baby. In a 1:1 Pilates session – online or face to face – our physiotherapists will take the time to assess your posture, flexibility, core strength and the way you move, so we can understand how to help you reach your goals. We will get you moving straight away and design a targeted programme of exercises, sent to you with videos, for you to practice.
We run a bespoke service, so whether you call us for a one-off assessment, book into a weekly online Pilates class or a regular private Pilates session, we will always be focusing on your individual needs.
When would a beginners Pilates class be recommended?
Learning the basics well, so they are second nature, means that you will continue to see progress in your strength and mobility. Skipping ahead before you’ve mastered good control, means that you are more likely to hit a plateau down the line. The beginner’s movements build gradually to help you move more efficiently in all activities and form the foundations for our more challenging Pilates classes.
Starting with a beginner’s class is especially important if you have an injury or pre-existing medical condition. Medical professionals often recommend Pilates to those who have had an injury or are recovering from illness or surgery. This is because it’s important to keep moving, both when your body is healing and after the healing process is complete. Movement helps prevent your muscles from becoming weak or tight and it stops your joints becoming stiff and relieves pain.
As physiotherapists we understand how bodies heal and we know how to modify and when to use pilates exercises safely to help those recovering from injury, illness or surgery. We only have physiotherapists with many years of clinical experience on our team, so the chances are that they have helped people with your exact symptoms many times.
Few things are as rewarding as seeing patients return to their normal lives and move freely without pain. So it doesn’t matter what your injury has been or when it happened, get in touch and we’ll talk through the issues, look at your scans and reports and get you moving safely and confidently again.
What will you learn in a beginners Pilates class?
You will learn a lot about your own body and how it moves. You’ll learn about your posture, strength, areas of tightness or excessive mobility, breathing patterns and habitual movement patterns.
You’ll practice some key movements with your physiotherapist and explore different ways techniques to help you achieve greater range and move with better control and efficiency.
Some of the benefits of a beginners Pilates class:
- Improved core control and strength
- Better balance
- Greater flexibility
- Postural awareness
- Breathing well
- More efficient patterns of movement
- General strength and tone for your whole body
- Stress management
- Pain relief
